Don’t water everyday
Extend days between watering
Water during the right time of the day
Water your lawn as needed
Rely on rain water
Recycle water whenever possible

Design landscapes for water conservation
Avoid mowing grass too short
Leave grass clippings on your lawn
Sweep sidewalks and driveways instead of using the hose

Those with new sod, grass seed, or plantings are an exception, but need to submit a permit to their city to be approved for additional watering.
